Fact Sheet # 1 - The Cost of Ground Water

The first in a series of Fact Sheets published by the Canadian Ground Water Association. This Fact Sheet was done in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Canada, a division of Natural Resources Canada.

Entitled "The Cost of Ground Water" it outlines much factual information on water consumption and comparative costs.

Readers are noted to be aware that this Fact Sheet was published in 1996 and prices quotes are of the 1996 vintage.

Fact Sheet # 2 - The Quality of Ground Water

Published in 1999 this Fact Sheet was also published in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Canada. This Fact Sheet is a compilation of water quality information and makes reference to the Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines as established by Health Canada.

Fact Sheet # 3 - Ground Water Contamination and Protection

Fact Sheet #3 published in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Canada introduces the reader to the fact that groundwater is generally a reliable and safe source of potable water. It points out, however, that mans activities can cause undesirable substances to contaminate the groundwater resource.

It outlines what measure may be taken to protect the ground water and emphasizes proper well construction, well management and wellhead protection.

Fact Sheet # 4 - Guidelines for Sanitizing a Water Well

Published by the Canadian Ground Water Association in collaboration with Red Deer College, this Fact Sheet was requested by industry for the purposes of chlorinating and shock chlorinating water wells.

The terminology "sanitizing" is used instead of disinfection but for all intents and purposes mean the same.

It must be pointed out to individuals who sue the directions for sanitizing/chlorinating a well that an assumption of risk and exclusion of liability clause is prominently noted on the cover of the Fact Sheet.

This Fact sheet is also in brochure form which may be obtained from the Canadian Ground Water Association.
